TIDERACE TRAINING PREMIUM WEEKEND

++ A whole weekend in the “tide race” of Worblaufen – with 4 participants max. ++
++ No excuses for Swiss sea kayakers any more: here, we have the best conditions to train for real tide race kayaking ++
++ Get ready for the tide race: navigating eddies, ferry gliding, surf ferrying, surfing on standing waves, rolling in the current, self rescues and partner rescues ++
++ We have timed our tiderace training premium weekends so that they both take place just before our
Jersey weeks. This way, you can get properly prepared and get the very best out of the Jersey trip! ++

    • Intro
This weekend will really be worth it! In a small group, with no more than four participants, we’ll spend two days training you to be able to do everything you need in order to squeeze every last drop of fun and excitement out of your Jersey trip.

In Worblaufen, there are four large eddies of different sizes and many standing waves which are great for practising, whatever the level of the river turns out to be. This gives us the best possible conditions for training in Switzerland, and in general, in fact – as long as you ignore the actual top tide races in Jersey, Anglesey etc.! What this means is: whatever you learn here, you’ll be able to do out on the sea – that’s a promise!
    • Schedule
On both days, we’ll start at 10:00 underneath the Tiefenau bridge (Tiefenaubrücke) in Worblaufen. On the first day, we’ll lay the foundations for technical paddling on moving water and fast currents. We’ll start off with the basics, like eddy manoeuvres and ferrying, and then we’ll build up to surfing on standing waves. Navigating eddies, ferry gliding, surfing and support strokes in big waves and strong currents with broad eddy lines and boils will provide you with plenty of challenges and are amazing fun, helping you to gain confidence in your own abilities, to learn to control your kayak, and to train your reflexes. Get used to moving water – and do so safely. If you capsize at any point (which is sure to happen sooner or later when you train as intensively as this), there’s a long section of hazard-free flowing water from which we can quickly rescue you.

On the second day, we’ll start off with some more training and develop some routines before getting absolutely soaking in the afternoon. Those of you who haven’t yet been for a swim will definitely do so now. We’ll get you trained in rescues, rolls, self rescues etc. – all of it in the current, ensuring both maximum thrills and the maximum level of safety out on the tide race

The course ends on Sunday at around 16:30.

On Saturday evening you can stay at the nearby Eymatt campsite. It’s a bit of an exercise in logistics, but you can in fact paddle there from Worblaufen (though independently, and at your own risk). We can clarify the details before the beginning of the course.
