    • Intro
The Marine Wilderness First Responder (or "MWFR" for short) is certainly the best and most solid first aid training offered in sea kayaking. This course was developed in England as an ISKGA module (mandatory for all ISKGA guides) and a sea kayak-specific further development of the existing Wilderness First Responder course (WFR), as offered by various organizations worldwide, as for example the Wilderness Medical Society, WEMSI or NOLS. The Wilderness First Responder is considered the "gold standard" in the training of outdoor guides worldwide - which is why the Marine Wilderness First Responder can certainly be understood to the same extent as a benchmark for sea kayak guides. It contains all the basic medical content of the "normal" WFR curriculum. While these are trained in the standard course by most teaching institutes with a special focus on the alpine environment, the MWFR course is specifically integrated into exactly the environment in which we sea kayakers move and focuses particularly on all the incidents that are most likely when paddling on the sea and between rocks. What's more, our scenarios are largely integrated into practical sea kayak rescues. This means this course bridges the (often long) gap between the moment an injured paddler is pulled out of the water and his/her handover to the rescue workers, making it the perfect complement to our Incident Management Week, which will take place right afterwards.

Get even more out of your trip to Sardinia and book the Marine Wilderness First Responder course in combination with our Incident Management week!

For both courses we will set up our base at Agristurismo Erbe Matte in Sant'Antioco, in southern Sardinia. This place is almost magically beautiful with its view over the hills and the sea. We live in fully equipped, futuristic looking domes that treat us to a bit of luxury. In addition, with the large kitchen dome, we have a perfect seminar room that we will use when we are not on the water, where our scenarios happen...
    • Saturday
We meet in the afternoon or early evening at Erbe Matte, which you can best reach by carpooling or renting a car from Cagliari. As always, arrival is individual.

Please note that you have to reserve your place on Erbe Matte yourself.

In the evening we cook together, get to know each other and discuss the details for the week and especially the next day depending on the conditions and weather forecast.
    • Days 1–6
The exact course program will be published here in the next few weeks.
    • Day 7
      Saturday = Travel back
Or stay with us for the Incident Management Week! In that case, today you'll have a lovely day off which you can use to relax, to hang out on an empty beach or for a fantastic hike in the hills of Sant'Antioco…

Boat rental: If you arrive without your own boat, you can rent one of our kayaks for 150 CHF for the duration of the course.

If you like, you can also rent a drysuit from us. Cost: CHF 150

Important: In addition to your paddle gear and possibly your boat, you must bring the following minimum equipment to the course:

      - sleeping pad
      - SAM Splint
      - Triangular bandages
      - Your personal first aid kit

      The kitty:
As always, on our MWFR Week we will also set up a kitty for meals. In fact, there will actually be two: one for food (€100 contribution per person) and one for alcohol (depending on how much you consume, or your best guess at it). Nobody is obliged pay into the kitty, nor to eat together with us. But cooking and eating together after a strenuous day's paddling is just good fun, and not only does it help to strengthen our tired muscles; it also helps us to create a sense of community. Find more on this topic here.

As you might expect, we can't make any guarantees in terms of weather or sea state. In order to ensure everyone's safety, our guide will decide how to carry out the planned programme locally on a daily basis, and whether to do so. As experienced sea kayakers, we know that Neptune always has the last word.

Accident insurance is the responsibility of the participants. We also strongly recommend that you obtain travel cancellation insurance. Please read our
GTC on the topic of cancellation fees, cancellation deadlines etc.
